GR Dashboard notes, whilst not being specifically a BuddyPress plugin could be useful for membership sites with a few admin and moderators. This plugin allows you to add notes to the dashboard that will only be seen by members of specific roles. So for example it could be used to send a general note to all admin, and they’d see it as soon as they visited the dashboard.
After you download and activate the plugin a new page is available in Dashboard>>Settings>>GR Dashboard Notes:
Here you can add up to five notes and specify which member roles they will be applicable to. Saving the note adds it to the dashboard for members whose role has been specified:
Overall this works very well, however I thought the note was a bit basic, it lacks a from: field and the format simply adds the text direct, no marker for urgency or other formatting to make it standout amongst everything else going on in the dashboard. However as an additional communication tool between admin users it could be useful. Overall I give it 7 out of 10, useful but could be better formatted, also the maximum of five notes is a bit limiting.
I've been setting up and managing BuddyPress social networks for a few years. I moved from Ning and other platforms and have come to BuddyPress looking to make sites with similar features to them.
BuddyPress Follow allows members of a BuddyPress social network to follow each other, it places follow buttons on each members profile and in the members page and adds extra tab's in each members profile page, one showing who is following you and the other showing who you are following.
BuddyPress First Letter Avatar is a simple plugin that gives a colour coded avatar based on a letter from the username of the user, for users that have not set an avatar image. It's an alternative to assigning a Gravatar or similar. It also performs the same task for Groups.
Mass Messaging in BuddyPress, is pretty much the opposite of the alternative Mass Messaging plugin – Mass Messaging for BuddyPress by Alkaweb. What I mean by this is this; whatever Alkawebs plugin does in the back-end, Mass Messaging in BuddyPress does from the front-end. Both of these plugins allow site admin to send mass messages to all, or groups of users in BuddyPress. What Mass Messaging in BuddyPress does extra, is to provide the ability to allow that privilege to other user types, and also it has the ability to track if the message has been read.
