Plugin Review – BuddyPress Featured Members
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-featured-members/, BuddyDev Plugin Page
Version Tested: V 1.0.8
BuddyPress Featured Members is a plugin that allow site admin to identify site members as featured, these members can then be displayed via a Members page filter, sidebar widget or shortcode.
Installation is quick and easy, after installing and activating the plugin, you can go straight to your Members page where a new button will be visible for site admin – Set Featured. Click this button to set a particular member as featured.
Once you have one or more members set as featured then the new Members page tab – Featured Members will display those members. There is an option on the BuddyDev Plugin Page to disable this tab if needed.
Using the widget is a case of going to Dashboard>>Appearance>>Widgets and adding the widget to your desired sidebar location. There is an option to set this to display either a list or a slider of the featured members. You could use Display Widgets SEO Plus to place this on specific pages such as Members.
The shortcode offers similar options to the slider, delivering both a list and slider view of the featured members. For example the following code will display the slider view on a page of your choice:
[bp-featured-members view=slider]
BuddyPress Featured Members also comes ready for translation, with it’s translation file located at:
wp-content/plugins/bp-featured-members/languages
So there’s nothing to stop you rebadging this plugin for other lists of particular members, for example you could make it your list of site admin or moderators, you could use it to highlight group admin etc.
Installing and testing this plugin was a dream, everything worked first time and in the way I was expecting it to, well done to the developers! I give this 10 out of 10!
