Plugin Review – BP Favorite Notification
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-favorite-notification/
Version Tested: V 1.0.0
By default, BuddyPress does not inform the poster when someone Favorites their content, this plugin adds that notification, so members know when people like their content.
The BuddyPress favorites system is often misunderstood by site users, they tend to think that it is the same as a like, however it is not, a Like is something that you use to inform the world that you like something on a site whereas in BuddyPress a favorite is something that you do in order to to set a personal bookmark, an indicator that you can come back to and review by looking in the Favorites page within your profile. As such there is no need to inform other members about your favorites – at least that was the design. Many members however would like to know that their item has been favorited, and this plugin will do that.
Installation is very simple, just install and activate the plugin, there are no settings to configure.
Using this plugin I did spot some inconsistencies around the way notifications for different activities can be dismissed, some are more difficult than others, for example a post favorite can be dismissed by clicking on the notification link, which takes you to the post, however an activity favorite can only be dismissed by visiting your notifications page and marking it as read or deleting it. Also, favoriting a post via the activity feed causes two notifications to be generated, one for the post and one for the activity.
This is a very simple plugin but could do with a revamp from the original version 1.0.0 that is currently available, it works but has some issues, so I give it 7 out of 10.
