Plugin Review – Social Graph Protocol BuddyPress YR
Version Tested: V 2.0
“The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. For instance, this is used on Facebook to allow any web page to have the same functionality as any other object on Facebook.
While many different technologies and schemas exist and could be combined together, there isn’t a single technology which provides enough information to richly represent any web page within the social graph. The Open Graph protocol builds on these existing technologies and gives developers one thing to implement. Developer simplicity is a key goal of the Open Graph protocol which has informed many of the technical design decisions.”
Social Graph Protocol BuddyPress YR is a plugin that aims to improve the information presented to Facebook when BuddyPress pages are shared onto this social media platform, it allows you to edit Meta tags that will be passed to Facebook when your WordPress and BuddyPress Activity pages are shared. This means that you have greater control over how your site is presented.
Once you have installed and activated this plugin a new Dashboard Option of Social Graph appears. Clicking on this allows you to enter a Website Description, Website Image and the Facebook User ID’s of your blog administrators. This means that for pages such as activity where there is no specific image to share you can make sure Facebook uses your preferred image, such as a site logo.
The plugin also adds an Open Graph section on each Posts page where the Open Graph Title, image, Video, Audio, Description etc can be configured.
This plugin does the task it says it will, once you have configured it then your default image will be displayed, I give this plugin 9 out 10, it is simple to install and use and fulfills a very useful role.
